This is one of neatest moments of my railfanning career. Two CSX trains met each other right at the tunnel switch while both were moving! Some people thought that they were going to crash, but the local in the foreground stopped and waited for the empty coal train to pass. I was the only one that knew that they were going to stop, because I heard them discussing the logistics on my scanner. |

On my way home from work, I flipped on my scanner and heard the dispatcher giving train Q693-25 track authority to head south towards Greenwood, and then eventually Waycross, GA. I parked just up the street in a parallel parking spot and hiked down to the West Main St. Crossing to photograph it. About two minutes later I could see the headlight of the lead unit rising on the slight grade out of the Spartanburg Tunnel. A moment later it passed through the lens of my camera. I was very surprised and pleased with the outcome. I think it's pretty good for a spur of the moment photograph, don't you think? On a historical note, the building to the right, Spartan Automotive, was formerly the Spartanburg ACL depot. |
